I do get book hauls every now and then. Rarely do I find one book that I need to have now and get it. Usually I’ll put it on my list and then get it along with a bunch of others at some point.
So maybe I’ll start sharing those. I do have good taste, so if anyone comes by this, then maybe they’ll check out some of the books. Which is always a plus.
Starting off small tho. This haul, I did not get myself, but it’s still my haul, cause they’re all books I wanted and Phoebe got them for me. <3
These three she got me!
The first one is Here I Am, by Jonathan Safran Foer:
Man, it looks gorgeous. Jonathan Safran Foer is an author I love. For two big reasons. First off, obviously, he’s a fantastic writer. Secondly, and for me the most important reason; Foer is the guy who first got me into reading in the first place. And then in turn, got me into writing.
Cause, I didn’t read a lot when I was younger. I liked writing in school. That was among my favorite projects to do: writing. It was easy. Just make something up, preferably something that you’d like to see yourself. Easy peasy.
Then, in 2007, there was a class I missed, and when I returned everyone had picked a book to read, and it was Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner. But, there weren’t any more copies of it left, so me and another guy who missed that first class went off to our small library to find a suitable replacement. I remember it was two books to choose from. I think one of them was Hosseini’s follow-up, A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I’m not sure. In any case, the important thing is that I chose the other one.
That was Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. It captivated me like no other book had done. And from then on, not having read for ‘fun’ on my free time before, I started reading a lot. And then I started writing a bit, cause that’s fairly fun. And then here we are. To this day Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is my absolute favorite novel. It shaped so much of who I turned out to be.
It was adapted to a film in 2011. Had Tom Hanks and Max Von Sydow and everything. But, it was my baby, and it took me four or five years to watch it. Needless to say, it didn’t do the book justice. Von Sydow was wonderful tho.
Here I Am is a book I want to read not only because of Foer, but because it sounds like his take on his good friend (I think I remember them being buddies) Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections. Should be good.
Barbary Station is the book in this haul I want to read the most. It sounds seriously cool. Check this out: Two engineers steal a shuttle and hauls ass away, all with the intent of joining a crew of space pirates (!!) at a deep space station. Once there, however, they find that the crew of pirates are sheltered together in a makeshift base welded onto the exterior of the station. Because inside, Barbary Station’s AI has gone mad, and is intent on killing every resident onboard.
That is just damn awesome. I’ve already begun reading through it!
This last one I wanted just for the film coming out these days. It looks really good, I’ve been following Armie Hammer since his early ‘Reaper’ days, and I want to read this before I see the adaption.
That’s it for now. I love book hauls. One of life greatest pleasures. See any books your interested in? Look them up! Read reviews! Get them!
