American Gods

So American Gods is surely everywhere these days. Why, it’s even on the blog!

We began watching the Television series a few days ago, and it’s pretty good. I honestly can’t say if it does the book justice anymore, cause I read it back when I first got into reading, which was around 2007. (Yes, I was seventeen, real late bloomer)

Phoebe loves everything Gaiman, and actually, now that I think of it, she has shoes she’s painted with art from Gaiman’s Sandman series that she should post. Anyway, she’s onboard with the series as well. Really good, despite the Bilquis (had to look up this) parts being very…um, graphic.

Can’t wait for Crispin Glover to show up, cause he’s just perfectly cast. And Jeremy Davies even shows up as Jesus? Heck yeah! Love that guy. Ian McShane is also excellent as Mr. Wednesday. I originally pictured Harvey Keitel in this role, so this is a good fit.

The reason for this post, however, is because I felt the need to share something. During another trip to my local Outland store, I saw a book that caught my eye. Upon further inspection, I found it to be American Gods, a book I’ve read, and that Pheeb and I both have a version of already, yet I still bought it. Why?

Because it looks fricken’ awesome! Look at it!

I want to stress the fact that this is probably one of the coolest book covers I’ve seen. It’s so retro and striking. It looks as one of those books you’d randomly come across in your local library in the 80s.

It’s medium small, paperback format, which honestly feels like the perfect fit for it. The title is embossed, and the colors are even more vivid in person. You could argue that this picture doesn’t really do it justice, but I like to keep the format of photographing things beside my cool dragon orb lamp.

The spine and back is equally awesome, continuing with the retro theme and appearance.

Hard to tell here, but the back and spine are also grainy, I love it so much. Definitely my favorite cover, for my favorite Gaiman novel. (wait, have I read more than one Gaiman novel? Uuuuh, I don’t think so Pheebs will be so disappoint)

Did some research and found that Gaiman got this version out due to him and his editor feeling that book covers these days were so boring, and the lack of effors going into them. As such, they brought in a guy called Robert McGinnis who is an old-timer book cover designer who went on to design this one. Ace move, cause it looks awesome. Props to you, man.

He’s also done work on some other Gaiman books! Their due out soon. Those books are Anansi Boys, Stardust, and Neverwhere. They look good, but not close to this one in my opinion. Stardust is my fave of these though.

You can check them out here: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2016/09/its-ashs-first-birthday-bare-chin-is.html

Turns out he also has a cute son called Ash. Learned something new today too, thanks Neil’s blog!

Alright, I guess I’ve been gushing over this book cover for too long.

May 17th!

Mat 17th is Norway’s national day, the date of our constitution. As such, there’s celebrations aplenty. Parades, flags, ice cream, friendly foreign men who sell you very good, cheap balloons my friend.

Anyway, just a short update to honor almighty Norway, the best country in the world. For all other countries are run by little girls. (Ours is run by a large one)

I kid, but it’s pretty great though. We had fun. Here’s a pic:

Phoebe really likes this one, cause it’s a reversal of one we did last year on May 17th. Though, I suspect it might be because she looks damn gorgeous in it.

She also made a cake.

Yes, it’s a brain, what else? It turned out pretty awesome, and tasty.

Yup, so that’s it. See ya around. Fuck the Swedes for trying to rule over us. (Actually, the Swedes are alright, they didn’t last that long. The Danish though…)
